The Scientific and Medical Network Charitable Trust

In 1986, George Blaker set up a charitable trust to provide financial support for the activities of the Scientific and Medical Network. This charitable trust is a separate legal entity and charity (Registered number 295267). It is able to provide grants to the Scientific and Medical Network. The trustees of the charitable trust are:

Max Payne, M.A., B.Sc.

Was formerly a lecturer in philosophy at Sheffield Hallam University. He was originally trained as a scientist but spent his academic career in philosophy. His main interests are the philosophy of science, the philosophy of religion, and theoretical and practical politics. He has written many book reviews and articles on the intersection of science and religion and is co-author, with the late Dr Peter Leggett, of A Forgotten Truth. He is interested in the mystical and paranormal dimensions of consciousness. He has been a Trustee since 1975 and was Chairman of the Trustees until 2006.

Janine Edge M.A., M.Sc.


Janine has been Chairman of the Trustees since 2006. She is a mediator, trainer in conflict resolution and lecturer in psychology. Formerly she was Visiting Fellow at Nottingham Trent University in Organisational Psychology and lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University on its MSc in Consciousness and Transpersonal Psychology. Her first career was as a lawyer. She was a partner of law firm Slaughter and May, headed its Financial Services Unit and was a General Commissioner of Taxes.

Dr. Paul Filmore, BSc, PhD, MInstP, CPhys

Is a University Senior Lecturer presently teaching electronics and business management at the University of Plymouth, after having spent time researching in physics. He is a university governor and a committee member of the Advanced Systems Group of the Institute of Physics. He has very great interest in all areas of education and with his wife Catherine jointly ran Wider Horizons for many years. He has been active in the Network for twenty years, since as an undergraduate meeting Peter Leggett at Surrey University, and then attending the very first Wider Horizons course.

Oonagh M. Harpur BA, BA


Oonagh combines the dual roles of Global Head of Corporate Responsibility and Partnership Secretary at Linklaters LLP, one of the leading global premium law firms. In her capacity as Global Head of Corporate Responsibility, Oonagh is responsible for ensuring that the business is managed in a consistently responsible way, with regard to its people, clients, environment and the community. In her other role as Partnership Secretary, she is responsible for promoting and applying sound and effective corporate governance principles in the firm, especially the decision making by 500 partners and is secretary to the firm’s international board and its sub-committees.

Rupert Stewart-Smith M.A.

Former Deputy Managing Director of UCB Films plc. Interests: spiritual approach to economics and industry.
