Programme

The conference will begin on Friday evening with a wine reception and dinner, after which Anne Baring will present her talk with slides entitled ‘The Dream of the Cosmos: who are we and why are we here?’

On Saturday morning there will be two further presentations: David Lorimer will give his perspective on the need for an integral worldview which transcends but includes the prevailing scientific materialism. Chris Lyons will address:  General Practice: how integral can it be? He will examine how materialism and other factors constrain it.  On Saturday afternoon there will be an excursion to Chichester Cathedral. Interested members may wish to visit nearby Beaulieu Abbey on Sunday after the meeting.  We will have our traditional entertainment on Saturday evening, and on Sunday we will hold our formal Annual General Meeting, where Members have a chance to hear from the officers about our work since last year, to contribute to the evolving direction of the Network and to elect new members of the Network Board.

During the meeting, periods will be set aside for informal networking. For those of you who have not yet attended the Network Annual Gathering, you will find it a wonderfully stimulating and sociable event where you can meet other Members in relaxed surroundings to exchange ideas and experiences.

All Members wishing to make 15-minute presentations on the theme should submit abstracts of their proposals by 31st May at the latest. We will then inform you in whether your proposal has been accepted as part of the programme. Please send abstracts to info@scimednet.org

Book Bazaar

This year we will again be holding a fundraising book bazaar and invite Members to bring their surplus books for sale. You are also welcome to bring copies of your own books for sale on the basis of a 50:50 split of profits with the SMN.

Travel and Costs

New Place is a Grade I listed manor house, designed by renowned architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, OM, PRA and set in 32 acres of lush parkland. The house was built in 1906 - completely of brick and red tiles - for Mrs A S Franklyn principally to house interiors rescued from the Jacobean "John Langton's House" in Welshback, Bristol. Fine fireplaces, chimneybreasts, ceilings and staircases were moved. It is still full of period charm but with excellent facilities including a health club and indoor pool. See: www.devere-venues/our-locations/new-place.html

Travel: Southampton Airport and the adjacent railway station Southampton Parkway are ten miles away, and there is a taxi rank in both places. Travel by car is relatively straightforward and detailed directions will be sent on booking.

Accommodation is in en suite single or double rooms. Rates include all meals and coffee/tea breaks. Please reply using the booking form. In the event of cancellation, a fee of £20 will be retained, and no refunds can be given after 25 June.

The Speakers

Anne Baring is a retired Jungian analyst – author and co-author of seven books including The Myth of the Goddess; Evolution of an Image, Soul Power: an Agenda for a Conscious Humanity, and The Dream of the Cosmos: a Quest for the Soul. Her work is devoted to the recognition that we live in an ensouled world and to the restoration of the lost sense of communion between us and the invisible dimension of the universe that is the source or ground of all that we call ‘life’.
