Blog » Dark Matter Nearby: Cosmic Rays from a Mysterious Object Close to Solar System
Apparently 'dark matter' accounts for the vast majority of mass in the universe, but it is a hypothetical entity - it has never been observed. Its funny that scientists often state that their discipline's exclusive strength is based on 'observables' when there are scientific constructs such as dark matter that have never been observed, but are inferred from other effects, and yet are required for the modern edifice of science to work.
Here is a recent story that implicates a 'cloud' of dark matter nearby our solar system. Sounds almost sinister!
"An international team of researchers has discovered a puzzling surplus of high-energy electrons bombarding Earth from space. The source of these cosmic rays is unknown, but it must be close to the solar system and it could be made of dark matter. Their results were reported in the Nov. 20th issue of the journal Nature."
