AGM 2002 Sweden

Science, Consciousness and Ultimate Reality

Karieborgs Folkhögskola och Kursgård, Norrköping, Sweden, 11 - 14 July 2002

May 2002

Dear Member,

I am writing to invite you to attend the 2002 Network Annual Gathering, which will take place next year from Thursday 11th - Sunday 14th July at Marieborg Folkhögskola och Kursgård, Norrköping, Sweden. Norrköping is a pleasant University town on an inlet from the Baltic about 1½ hours from Stockholm. We will be going on a boat excursion round the archipelago on Saturday afternoon. Accommodation is in single or double rooms, and there are also a few special rooms. All rooms are en suite. There is also a lift between floors.

Programme
The meeting will begin on Thursday evening with drinks and dinner. The theme for the meeting continues the momentum of the Templeton project into the Annual Meeting and will be addressed on the Friday. Saturday will be devoted to parallel presentations of Members' work in seminar or workshop format. On Sunday morning we will hold our Annual General Meeting. For those of you who have not yet attended a gathering, you will find it a stimulating sociable event and a wonderful opportunity to meet other Members and exchange ideas. The following presentations are already scheduled:

Dr. Benvenuto Andrean (Netherlands): Androgyny: Merely an Interesting Concept, or the Essence of the Human Psyche
Lyn Andrews (Australia): Love and Empathy: Listening with the Head and the Heart
Prof. John Clarke: There Can be no Scientific Solution to the 'Hard Problem' of Consciousness
Jens Jerndal (Sweden): Love, Consciousness and Light
Doris Jones (England): The Report of the Working Group on CFS/ME to the UK's Chief Medical Officer
Anthony Lonergan (England): Reason Beyond Science: A Unified Theory of Consciousness, Mind and Matter
David Lorimer (Scotland): Science, Consciousness and Ultimate Reality
Prof. Victor Mansfield (USA): Science and the Sacred: Distinguishing Kinds of Knowledge
Dr. Alex Reichel (Australia): The Violent Consciousness: Kierkegaard and Girard
Dr. Axel Randrup (Denmark): Natural Science, Consciousness and Nature Spirituality
Ove Sviden (Sweden): Peace as Science, Consciousness and Ultimate Reality
Prof. Alexander Trofimov (Russia): Some Observations in the Planet's Information Space

Travel and Costs
Accommodation costs will be paid directly to the venue on arrival (cash or credit cards). The costs are Double Room 1,950 SEK, Single Ordinary 2,300 SEK, Single higher standard 2,650 SEK. All prices are for full board. The current exchange rate is 15K to the £. The Registration Fee is £75, which will be inclusive of a boat trip. You may also wish to contribute to the Bursary/Travel Fund, which enables us to invite a few Members who would otherwise be unable to attend. Contributions from £10-£30 would be most welcome.

Flights: You can book your flights online from Ryan Air's website (www.ryanair.com). The flights have changed so the ideal one to get now leaves Stansted at 1420 on the Thursday, arriving Stockholm S. Skavsta at 17.25. Returning on 14 July at either 17.50 or 21.35. There will be a bus meeting the incoming flight, the cost of which will be shared among the participants - approx £10. Could you please advise if you will be on that flight in order that we can confirm numbers for the bus.

I very much look forward to hearing from you and hopefully to seeing you there.

With best wishes,

David Lorimer
