Blog » Acute Death Experience
Thanks to Dr. Perera of Melbourne I spent last night reading an article that I had missed in the last edition of the Journal of Near-Death Studies. As you will no doubt be aware this is the academic journal for professional members of the International Association of Near-Death Studies (IANDS).
So why am I so excited? Well most of this edition is taken up by a fascinating article by Dr. Michael Sabom entitled "The Acute Dying Experience". I am particularly excited by the implications of the first-person reports of this Acute Dying Experience (already being known by the acronym "ADE"). This new phenomenon is of great interest to me personally because it supports in many ways my own theories regarding the Near-Death Experience.
I would like to open up a debate about the contents of this important article. Clearly there is simply not enough space to précis it all here so I suggest that any of you that wish to join in should request a copy of the article directly from Dr Sabom himself at: 100 Wing Mill Road, Atlanta, GA 30350 or by email at Msabom2@aol.com.
Dr Sabom considers that the ADE is a phenomenon that precedes the NDE (Near-Death Experience) and is quite distinct from it. In doing so he neatly explains some crucial components of my “Cheating The Ferryman” proposal and suggests the neurological mechanism by which such a state of hyper-consciousness may come about.
Indeed one particular area worth discussing is how the ADE mirrors many of the sensations described by individuals who experience the effects of Ketamine.

Yes, I would agree that precognition is a strong support for the dyad of the CTF model. This sense of "remembering the future" has borne out is so many areas, of which NDE/ADE is a particularly formidable one as is shown in Sabom's excellent research tables.

I thought it was particularly notable that in DR Sabam's table showing statistics about NDErs, an unusually hich percentage of people from all religious backgrounds, experience precognition.
Once again, this fits the Cheating the Ferryman model exactly. If we are reliving previous life reviews in real time, we will have memories of things which have not yet happened, of which we are not consciously aware. But the aspect of our consciousness which IS aware of previous experiences, the Daemon, is able to communicate this knowledge to the Eidolon (the unaware aspect) once the pathway to such communication enters our awareness.

addendum: I do remember clearly that time dilation and Bohmian I-MAX were quite evident in Sabom's research, mirroring your own, and validating CTF. Persinger makes a distinction between positive and negative NDE, which reflects much on your Dyad, as well. More soon.

I have read all of Dr. Sabam's excellent essay, and I see clearly the extent to which your own Cheating the Ferryman thesis is thereby confirmed. I am not certain if the ADE is in fact distinct and separate from the NDE. I do think that there is much room for discussion and debate on this matter. I intend to re-read my notes on Sabom's work - which I made directly after I had read the article - and post further remarks.
